Meet the experienced and friendly doctor and staff who make Vision Source – Kingsford the leading provider of vision care products and services in Upper Michigan.

Dr. Nelson Hassell, O.D.

Dr. Hassell graduated from the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Micro Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. In 1986 he received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In 1985 he completed his internship training at the Indian health Service clinic in Anadarko, OK, the Colorado Optometric Center in Denver, CO. and the St. Louis Optometric Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Hassell is president of NHH Vision Group, S.C., a corporation formed in 1990. NHH Vision Group is located in Kingsford, MI.. He is a 31 year member of the American Optometric Association and the Wisconsin Optometric Association.
Dr. Hassell is a Vision USA Volunteer and an Infant See Volunteer. He is also an AOA Certified Aviation Vision Examiner and holds a Professional License in Wisconsin and Michigan.

In addition to providing eye health exams for patients of all ages Dr. Hassell consults his patients on ocular nutrition to aid in the treatment of Diabetes, Hypertension, Macular Degeneration, Cataract and Dry Eye disease. Dr. Hassell fits all types of contact lenses including bifocal lenses. He is certified to fit corneal reshaping Ortho-K lenses designed to reduce and control the progression of myopia. He is certified to fit Synergeyes Hybrid contact lenses and Ampleye Scleral Rigid Gas Permeable lenses for the treatment of Keratoconus, post-surgical corneas and irregular corneas due to injury or cornea transplant.

Dr. Hassell recently celebrated his 27th anniversary with his wife Jenny. They have two daughters, Shelby, 22 and Emily, 15. The family enjoys skiing in the winter and being on the water in the summer.
